Biography :: Karl Bailey

Karl feels as though he grew up in the most exciting time period for music, the 60’s and 70’s. “On any given day I would listen to Jimi Hendrix, Kansas, James Taylor, and Earth, Wind, and Fire back to back.”  This also led to an identity crisis as Karl could not decide if he was a Soul Singer, a Rocker, or a Folkie. “Artists used to have a specific genre that they were forced to be classified under and it was the kiss of death to have a multi-genre release. This is what makes me so excited about the current music scene. With downloadable music people have returned to buying singles.”

Growing up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, which didn’t have a lot of radio stations, Karl mostly relied on his older siblings’ musical tastes. “My one sister bought 45s from Motown, my brother had Springsteen, Little Feat, and Edgar Winter records and even my parents’ Herb Albert, The Supremes, and The Mammas and the Pappas albums were favorites.”

Once his family saw how music was becoming a passion of Karl’s, records became his Birthday and Christmas gifts.  “One Birthday, when I was 12 or 13, I got 11 albums. I would play them over and over again reading the lyrics on the cover until I could sing the entire record by heart”.

Karl’s 1st CD release, “Psychic, Surfboard, Resumes,” is a reflection of his childhood musical influences consisting of soft ballads, R n’ B influenced tunes, and stone cold rockers.  “I truly hope that there is something for everyone on this disc”.
